At Casagrand nothing makes us more proud than being able to enjoy a little piece of history every day. Our apartments, our terrace, the pool… Everything in our house exudes the essence of modernism thanks to the design of the iconic architect Enric Sagnier (Barcelona, 1858-1931), one of the great exponents of Catalan modernism. Today, we’re strolling through the city to discover its most emblematic buildings. Will you join us for a walk along Barcelona’s Sagnier route?

Expiatory Temple of the Sacred Heart
If you’ve climbed Tibidabo to enjoy the best views of the city, you’ll have visited the temple at the top. This is one of Sagnier’s most famous works, initially called “Barcelona’s new Montmartre” in reference to the Sacré-Coeur in Paris. Completed in 1961 by his son, the temple is today a symbol of the city. A construction that can be admired from different points in the city, including our terrace.

The Palace of Justice
In 1888, construction began on one of the city’s most important buildings, the Palace of Justice. At the time, its spectacular appearance drew the attention of passersby. However, once inside, the pleasure of the architecture was diluted by the anticipation of the verdict. Some of the city’s most important trials have taken place within its walls. Even today, it houses valuable historical archives. With its eclectic and grandiloquent style, it currently houses the High Court of Justice of Catalonia.

The new Customs
Sagnier was one of Barcelona City Council’s most beloved architects. Not only did he receive numerous awards, but he was also commissioned to design important government buildings. One of these was the new Barcelona Customs House. New, as it replaced the old one built in the 18th century. A spectacular maritime gateway to the city, crowned by two large eagles and winged lions.
